In 1988, thanks to a Travel Award from Northern Arts (now Arts Council North), I went on a month-long visit to northern and central Italy, searching out as many paintings as I could find by two 15th century artists, Giovanni Bellini and Piero della Francesca. One of the wonderful things about Piero della Francesca is his great sense of colour - his colourful greys, and it was these colourful greys which I wanted to get into my lithograph, Take Stock.
